Nepalis Celebrating Udhauli Festival

December 17, 2013: Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khilraj Regmi sent the congratulatory message to the Nepalis particularly the people of the Kirant community on the occasion of the Udhauli festival, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

In the message, Chairman Regmi has said that such a festival would inspire all to keep intact the cooperation and good will among the people for the centuries. Chairman Regmi also wished for the peace and prosperity of all the Nepalis.

 

The Kirant community celebrates the festival of harvest called Ughauli on the full moon day in Marga (Nov-Dec). The Kirant community comprising Rai, Limbu, Sunuwar and Yakkha has started celebrating the festival jointly. The Rai sub-community calls this festival ‘Sakeva or Sakela’; Chamling Rai calls it ‘Chhirinam’; Limbu calls it ‘Chasok Tangnam’; Sunuwar calls it ‘Fulsyadar’; and Yakkha calls it ‘Casuva’.
