Maoists’ US Visit Cancelled

Issue 26, June 27, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 26, 2010: Kathmandu Metro had reported “The US Embassy in Kathmandu has granted visa to four Maoist leaders such as CP Gajurel, Agni Sapkota, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Pampha Bhusal for the US to attend the seminar in Boston among others.” Obviously, it was not so, as Agni Sapkota remained in Nepal. Apparently, the US embassy in Kathmandu has denied Mr. Sapkota the US visa allegedly for his involvement in violence of human rights. Despite the Maoists are still on the terrorist-watch list of the USA, the US embassy in Kathmandu had provided the three Maoists with the visa enabling them to attend the seminar in Boston funded by the USAID/Nepal and arranged by the Karuna foundation: an INGO.

Upset by the unexpected denial of the visa to Mr. Sapkota, the UCPN-Maoist has asked the US embassy in Kathmandu for returning the three comrades that have already left Kathmandu for the US on June 24, 2010. The UCPN-Maoist chairman has said that Mr. Sapkota has been denied the visa on the false charge to defame his party.
