Opening Ancient Treasuries In Kathmandu

March 22, 2013: the Department of Archeology (DoA) has decided to open the two ancient treasuries at the Hanuman Dhoka Palace Museum. It has decided to have the public presence in opening the most mysterious treasuries. So, the DoA has formed a 23-member committee coordinated by Bhesh Narayan Dahal, Director General of DoA.

The committee comprises the members representing Nepali Army, DoA, District Administration Office, Nepal Police, Federation of Nepal Journalist, Nepal Gold and Silver Entrepreneurs Association, the chief of Human Dhoka Palace Museum, Guthi Sanstahn, Finance Minister, the priest of Talaju Temple, Nepal Rastrya Bank, Defense Minister, Kausitosnakhan and other bodies to witness the opening of the treasuries and their contents, according to the Gorkhapatraonline.com news of today.

The royal treasuries had been active until the time the Shah Kings shifted to Narayanhiti Palace from the Hanuman Dhoka. Thereafter they were sealed and have remained closed until now. Nobody knows what these treasuries hold, as they had been kept secrete. The treasuries had been the private accumulation of assets for the rainy days.

The government took over the treasuries August 4, 2008 after the declaration of Nepal a republic. Shardalgunj Barrack of Nepal Army has been keeping these treasuries safe.

Director General of DoA Bhesh Narayan Dahal said that the opening of the treasuries house will be held in presence of all committee members on the April 4, 2013. Security will be tight to stop any unwanted incident from happening when the treasuries are opened.
