Policies and Programs of Government
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On July 9, 2009, President Ram Baran Yadav has read out the policies and programs of the coalition government headed by Prime Minister Madhav Nepal in the parliament. The main partners in the government, the Nepali Congress leaders have been unhappy with the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) leaders for disregarding the policies and programs the NC leaders have suggested them for including in the overall policies and programs of the government.
Eight small political parties have registered their proposals for amendment to the policies and programs of the government at the parliamentary secretariat. The government will need to consider the proposals of the small political parties and of the NC for an amendment to the policies and programs, as the CPN-UML and the NC need the support of the small parties for garnering the majority vote in the parliament.
Parliamentarians are going to discuss the policies and programs and vote on these policies and programs on Sunday, July 12, 2009. The CPN-UML has issued a whip to its members of parliament to be present in the parliament and participate in the voting on Sunday, July 12, 2009.
The United communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist) has decided not to participate in the discussion of policies and programs of the government and in the voting, too. The UCPN-Maoist leaders have said that the policies and programs put forward by the unconstitutional government are not acceptable to them.
