Supreme Court Of Nepal Rejects Appeal Of Casino Owner
By KT Metro Reporter
July 12, 2011: hearing on the appeal filed by the owner of Nepal Recreation Center Rakesh Wadhwa: an Indian national, a bench of Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Nepal Khilaraj Regmi and Justice Prakash Basti has rejected the appeal of Mr. Wadhwa for seeking a stay order on the government's decision on canceling his license to run casinos in Nepal. The ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal has paved the way for confiscating the assets of the Nepal Recreation Center to recover the amount of the royalty Mr. Wadhwa has failed to pay the government for the last three years.
Mr. Wadhwa has not paid salaries to the staffs of the casinos he has been running for the last nine months. Some of the staffs have said that Mr. Wadhwa has been using the money collected from the casinos for building hotels in Goa, India.
Such unscrupulous behavior of the Indian nationals in Nepal has created an environment conducive to suspect the intention of Indian nationals willing to invest and run businesses in Nepal.
