Shame On CPN-Maoists

Issue 37, September 15, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 13, 2013: CPN-Maoists have enforced a one-day shutdown yesterday protesting against the elections to a new constituent assembly. What they have got in return are only shame and curses from the common folks that suffered from their shutdown. In addition, some youths came up against such shutdown. The European nations have vigorously opposed the shutdown.

Nepalis that have got to attend the urgent businesses such as going to hospitals for taking sick people or for attending sick people at hospitals have suffered from the shutdown terribly. Some people have walked tens of kilometers to reach their destinations to attend the unavoidable businesses. The CPN-Maoists must be shameful for causing such untold misery to the common folks.

A group of youths gathered at Thapatali Mandala and marched from there to Basantapur in Kathmandu yesterday to hold a rally protesting against the shutdown called by the CPN-Maoists. They confronted with the thugs deployed by the CPN-Maoists at Sundhara but the police kept them separated avoiding direct confrontation. The youths coming out against the shutdown have said that they are not against any political party but they are against such illegal shutdowns called by anybody causing sufferings to common folks.

On behalf of the diplomatic missions of the European countries such as Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom in Kathmandu, the representative has issued a statement stating such shutdowns have adversely affected the development activities they have supported in Nepal; such shutdowns are not only antisocial but also cause fear and violence; so, they are ready to support the State law-enforcement agency to curb such illegal shutdowns, and to bring the culprits to justice.

Some experts in curbing such illegal activities have suggested the home ministry to take the thugs deployed by any political party to enforce shutdowns in custody, and then dumped them in the stadium for a day, and release them only late night so that they could not hurt anybody, and at the same time could not shut down the businesses of the common folks.
