Maha Navami: Ninth Day Of Dasain Festival In Nepal

October 13, 2013: Nepalis are celebrating the ninth day called Maha Navami today all over the country visiting the different field shrines of Goddess Durga Bhavani in various names.

 

Artisans cleaned up the instruments of their businesses, drivers their vehicles, mechanics their machines and tools, soldiers their weapons in the morning, and then they made offerings to the instruments of their business today morning. They believe that making offerings to the instruments of businesses once a year on the Maha Navami makes them safe to use.

 

Hundreds of thousands of roosters, ducks, goats, sheep and buffaloes are sacrificed to Goddess Durga Bhavani in various names at the different field shrines and at the prayer rooms following their tradition.

 

The doors of the temple of Goddess Taleju Bhawani: another name of Durga Bhavani at Hanuman Dhoka in Kathmandu are opened to common folks today for a day once a year. Goddess Taleju Bhawani is brought to the Dasain Ghar: a shrine especially built from the temple for making offerings to the deity during the Dasain. Number of goats is sacrificed to the goddess last night following the tantric rituals.
