World Bank Support for Education Sector In Nepal

Issue 39, September 27, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On September 22, 2009, the World Bank has approved a $130 million IDA credit to Nepal to continue its support for the education sector to achieve the Nepal’s goal of education for all. The World Bank funding will meet a slice of expenditures both recurrent and development for the School Sector Reform Program: the main vehicle for the implementation of a 15-year National Program of Action. The Government of Nepal designed it with a focus on the three pillars of Access, Inclusion and Quality. Pooling their resources with the Government of Nepal, eight other development partners have also supported the program.

The World Bank has been a partner to the development of Nepal’s education sector for over 30 years through a series of national programs. These include the Basic and Primary Education Projects I and II, the Community School Support Program, the Secondary Education Support Program and the Education for All Program.
