Violence in Terai Districts

The violence caused by the assassination of Moit Khan, Chairman of the Vigilantes’ group created and armed by the king’s government to counter the insurgency in the Kapilvastu District of the Terai area in the past, and the current district vice-chairman of the Loktantrik Madheshi Mukti Morcha on Sunday, September 16 morning has spread in the neighboring district called Rupandehi. The Rising Nepal of September 17, 2007 reported that assassinated Abdul Moit Khan was the Central Committee Member of Nepali Congress-Democratic. Five Nepalis have already lost their lives in the violence. The local administration has imposed curfew and reinforced the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force but the situation has been out of control so far.

On September 17, the district leaders of the eight parties held a huge goodwill rally in Butwal, Rupandehi district with the intention of maintaining communal harmony and tolerance following the attack on the Mosque after setting off the violence.
