Gachhedar’s Disclosure

Issue 30, July 27, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On July 22, 2008, speaking at Reporters Club Nepal, parliamentary party leader of Madheshi People's Rights Forum (MPRF) Bijaya Kumar Gachhedar disclosed that his party had laid a claim on the position of prime minister if the Maoists did not form a new government at the time of negotiation with the NC and CPN-UML for forming a new alliance just before the presidential election was held on July 19, 2008. Gachhedar also said that the two parties: NC and CPN-UML agreed to have discussion on it after the election for the CA chairman; however, it was not mentioned in the four-point agreement the three parties: NC, CPN-UML and MPRF reached due to technical difficulties.

He also said that both the NC and CPN-UML could not have the claim on forming a new government as they lost the popular mandate in the election for a CA, and they should not lay any claim on forming a government on moral grounds. He also said that either the CPN-Maoist or the MPRF has the claim on forming a new government based on the people’s mandate given in the election for a CA.
