NC, CPN-UML And UCPN-Maoist Going Together And Working Together

December 9, 2013: at the meeting held at Lazimpat residence of Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda yesterday, NC, UCPN-Maoist agreed on promulgating a new constitution within a year. At the meeting, NC leaders urged the UCPN-Maoist leaders to participate in the constitution drafting process and accept the people's mandate, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.
UCPN-Maoist demanded the formation of a high-level probe commission to hold investigation into irregularities in the elections and policy flaws seen in course of the elections to the CA. Chairman Prachanda demanded the investigation into structural, policy and institutional irregularities in the elections.
Vice-President of NC Ram Chandra Poudel said that all the issues would be resolved through discussions and talks, the meeting was held in a positive environment. Poudel also said that both the parties held discussions openly and both the parties were flexible to resolve the problems. Both the parties have agreed to hold discussions again.
After the meeting with the NC leaders, UCPN-Maoist leaders held another meeting with the CPN-UML. At meeting, the CPN-UML leaders urged UCPN-Maoist leaders to join the CA, and discuss their concerns at the CA rather than keeping themselves out of the CA
UCPN-Maoist leaders urged the CPN-UML leaders to ensure the promulgation of a progressive constitution following the agreements reached so far from the 12-point understanding to the Interim Constitution, and to hold an investigation into irregularities in the elections. They also discussed the topic on forming a Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
After the meeting, leader of the UCPN-Maoist Narayankaji Shrestha said, “We have not said we do not join the CA, we have told only to carry out investigation into rigging taken place in course of CA election and to ensure the basis for promulgating a progressive constitution from CA.” Shrestha said, "But do not link the issues we have raised with defeat," and added that they knew that participating in election was also to accept defeat. He further said that they urged to bring truth among people by carrying out investigation into the reliability of the election. Shrestha said that they were committed to peace and constitution writing and urged not to doubt about it.
