Benazir Bhutto Assassinated

On Thursday, December 27, 2007, former Prime Minister of Pakistan and President of the Pakistan People’s Party was assassinated by gunmen and suicide bombers after addressing the election rally held by her party nearby Rawalpindi. Al-Qaida has claimed for the assassination; however, her party men have blamed the Pakistani government for the security lapse. President Pervez Musharraf declared the three-day mourning; national flags are flown at half-mast everywhere in Pakistan during the mourning period. All the world leaders and head of states condemned the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Her father former Prime Minster Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was hanged by the then-junta government in April 1979. Her two brothers were killed while Miss Bhutto was the Prime Minister and in power.

Assassinated Former Prime Minster Benazir Bhutto was charged with corruption and mismanagement of the state affairs. She was Prime Minister twice but both the time she could not complete her term in  office.
