Burning Verdict Of Supreme Court On Issuing Voters’ ID Cards

Issue 50, December 12, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 6, 2010: Nepal Sadbhawana Party (NSP) has decided to burn a copy of the verdict of the Supreme Court of Nepal on issuing voters’ identity cards based on only the citizenship certificates on December 17, 2010, ‘The Himalayan Times’ online today writes.

The Election Commission has decided to issue voters’ ID cards based on other documents of residence after the Madheshi Political leaders have threatened to launch a movement against the Election Commission’s decision on issuing voters’ ID cards based on only the citizenship certificates.

In view of non-Nepalis getting voters’ ID Cards and subsequently becoming Nepalese citizens, a couple of advocates have filed a petition at the Supreme Court of Nepal pleading for directing the Election commission to issue voters’ ID Cards based on only the citizenship certificates.
