Nepali Congress Continues Boycotting Parliamentary Sessions

Issue 17, April 26, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

In the parliamentary party meeting held on April 23, 2009, the Nepali Congress decided to boycott the parliamentary sessions until the issue of the explanations taken from the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) is resolved. The parliamentarians also discussed the state interference in the court, army, press and administration. Deputy Chairman Ram Chandra Poudel stated that the interferences of the Maoists in the army and other sectors including the crafting of a new constitution would not be acceptable to his party but would remain committed to craft a new constitution according to the ‘Gorkhapatra’ of April 24, 2009

Political parties have made boycotting of the parliamentary sessions the continuous process wasting the valuable time of the parliamentarians but continuing to collect the remuneration for attending the sessions thus misusing the taxpayers’ money. The parliamentarians need to immediately pass a bill on stopping the boycotting parliamentarians from collecting allowances and other remunerations.
