Torchlight Rallies Across The Country

On the evening of November 1, 2009, Chairman of United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist) Prachanda has initiated the second round of National People’s Movement lighting a torch at the old Bus Park in Kathmandu. According to the Maoists, about 50,000 men and women participated in the rally in Kathmandu. One of the TV anchors has reported that the rally has covered about one kilometer street in Kathmandu. The rally has disrupted the vehicular traffic for about two hours at the heart of Kathmandu.

Similarly, Maoists have held torchlight processions at all the district across the country according to the Nepalese media. No violence has reported so far. Chairman Prachanda has been telling the public that the movement would be peaceful and if the government uses force against such a peaceful movement then the government will be responsible for all the consequences.
