All-party Meeting At Presidential Office Yesterday

Issue 37, September 15, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 14, 2013: at an all-party meeting held at the presidential offices in the presence of the president and the Vice-president yesterday, the CPN-Maoists presented four-point proposal; the points are 1) chairman of interim election council of ministers Khilraj Regmi has to quit the position of the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal, and a government to be formed of political parties under the chair of Regmi, 2) a round table conference, 3) elections to be postponed for Chaitra (March/April), and 4) road map for crafting a new constitution, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

Leaders have not come to any conclusion at the meeting. Everybody agreed on holding an all-party meeting again on Sunday. Leaders of NC and CPN-UML are not for postponing the elections and for forming a new government, too. Both the CPN-Maoists and UCPN-Maoists have said that the meeting was held in a positive environment.

The Election Commission has said that technically, registering new political parties at the Election Commission is not feasible. So, like it or not, the CPN-Maoists might have to stay away from the elections if the elections were to be held in November.
