International Food-chain KFC Importing Chicken Unlawfully

December 17, 2012: the international restaurant chain called KFC has been bringing chicken from India unlawfully, the law enforcement officials have probably closed their eyes on such activity of the international company operating in Nepal.
Local people in the Dhading caught the truck carrying two containers of chicken and destroyed the containers on the spot. This incident has trigged the government to order the concerned state agency to keep vigil on such unauthorized import of foodstuff.
The government has issued instructions to the Central Livestock Quarantine Office that in turn issued instructions to all the quarantine check posts across the country to enforce the ban on the chicken the government has imposed after the incident of the bird flu, writes ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’ yesterday
The Livestock Service Department Deputy Director Dr Ramkrishna Khatiwada said they had destroyed the chickens brought in by the KFC after it was confirmed that they were imported from India as per the local farmers’ demand. According to Khatiwada, after the investigation by the team of experts from the Central Livestock Service Department found that the chicken was imported from India breaching the country’s laws, and it had informed the same to the Central Quarantine Office, according to ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’.
Department of Livestock Services has sought clarification from four officials working at quarantine offices in Birgunj, Chitwan and Kathmandu two days after it was revealed that Devyani International Nepal: the promoter of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and Pizza Hut in Nepal had been illegally importing chicken from India, according to the news posted on the nepalnews.com.
