February 9, 2013: General Secretary of the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Jitendra Sonal said it would not buy proposal of the UCPN-Maoist for forming a government led by the sitting chief justice. Sonal said a new prime minister should be somebody who showed strong commitment to Constituent Assembly and new political changes. “The CA was dissolved due to the Supreme Court. It was Regmi’s bench, which gave verdict in favor of the automatic dissolution of the CA. I do not think this chief justice has strong commitment to the CA,” he said, adding, “Under Regmi’s leadership, the Supreme Court has not given positive verdicts on any of the public interest litigations such as integration of Madhesis into national army, citizenship or voter identity cards,” according to HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE of yesterday
Deputy Prime Minster Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar is against formation of a CJ-led government. He told journalists at the Biratnagar airport yesterday that rather than a CJ-led election government the parties should focus on forging a consensus on forming a government following a political agreement, according to HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE of yesterday.
The top leaders of the main opposition parties such as NC and CPN-UML didn’t utter a word on the latest proposal of the UCPN-Maoist for forming a government led by Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi to hold elections. Speaking at the anti-government rally of the nine opposition parties in Tundikhel yesterday, NC President Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and CPN-UML leader KP Oli said nothing on the issue though they claimed that days of the Baburam Bhattarai-led government were numbered. They, however, said door for talks was open and they were hopeful that UCPN-Maoist would come to the negotiating table within a few days. They hoped that Maoists would show flexibility after their Hetauda conclave concluded yesterday, according to HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE of yesterday.
