Experts On Culture Exchanging Ideas On Preservation Of Cultural Heritages

December 19, 2013: a two-day international symposium on "Protecting Asia's heritage, strategies for fighting illicit traffic of cultural property and fostering restitution" concluded in Kathmandu, Nepal on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, according to the Xinhua news.
Jointly held by the UNESCO and Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the symposium brought together about 100 experts working in various sectors related to the cultural-heritage preservations.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Kumar Shrestha said that the problem of trafficking in cultural properties was a great threat to Nepal as well as to other nations and hoped that the gathering of the experts would help in finding out the ways and means to fight against the illicit trafficking in cultural heritage.
Head of UNESCO office in Kathmandu Axel Plathe said that the symposium addressed a variety of issues like challenges to establish a system to identify and locate cultural property in a systematic way.
The participants in the symposium included experts from the South Asian region and from the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Interpol, the World Customs Organization, and other regional organizations.
