Shutting Down Jewelry Stores In Kathmandu Valley In Protest

December 25, 2011: Nepal Gold and Silver Entrepreneurs’ Association has called for the shutdown of gold and silver stores in the Kathmandu Valley today protesting against the murder of the store owners; they will march from Basantapur to the metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office at 11 AM and submit a memorandum to the police chief demanding their security, ‘The Himalayan Times’ and Nepalnews.com report today.
On Friday evening, December 23, 2011, some robbers on motorbikes came to the jewelry store of Harka Bahadur Diyali, and shot him while he was pulling down the shutter of his store, and injured his assistant Roshan B.K at Kapan, Kathmandu. Harka Bahadur Diyali died on the way to hospital; his assistant is getting medical treatment.
A few weeks ago, the owner of one of the jewelry stores in Lalitpur was murdered at his store. The police have found the murders were the employees of his stores. They were from the neighboring Indian state and the Nepalese police have managed to bring them under their custody.
Concerning the death of Diyali, the police have arrested two men. The police believed that six persons were involved in attempting on robbing Diyali and killing him.
