CIAA Opted for Administrative Actions against Former Ministers

On Tuesday, July 15, 2008, Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) made recommendations to the Government of Nepal on recovering from three former ministers such as Kamal Thapa, Tanka Dhakal and Shrish SJB Rana, thus opting for taking administrative actions instead of legal actions against the former ministers, who served the then-King Gyanendra during his absolute rule.
CIAA in its letter to the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers asked the government to recover Rs 9,718,000 from Kamal Thapa, Rs 3,618,500 from Shrish SJB Rana and Rs 708,500 from Tanka Dhakal based on the report prepared by the high-level commission headed by Krishna Jung Rayamajhi. The then-government set up a high-level commission to find out the responsible state employees for suppressing the People’s Movement in April 2006.
The government had sent the report prepared by the Rayamajhi Commission to CIAA for taking actions against the state employees, who had abuse the power to suppress the People’s Movement in April 2006.
