Government Invites CPN-Maoist to Talks Without Conditions

Issue 31, August 4, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 1, 2013: Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire yesterday sent a letter to Chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya inviting the 33-party front including the CPN-Moist to the talks. The government had sent a letter to the CPN-Maoist on July 19, 2013 inviting the 33-party front to the talks but the front ignored the letter stating the government was not for holding talks without conditions, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

This time, the government has not mentioned any condition. So, the CPN-Maoist has taken it positively, and it will be deiced in the meeting of the 33 political parties to decide whether to participate in the talks or not, has said spokeswoman for CPN-Maoist Pampha Bhusal to the anchor of the Radio Nepal news in the 7:00 am morning today.

Member of the 33-paty front Haribhakta Kandel has said that the meeting of the 33-party front held yesterday has not made any decision on participating or not participating in the talks called for by the government, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

Referring to the previous calls of the four-party political mechanism and the government, Mr. Kandel has said that the 33-party front will decide only after ascertaining the attitude of the government and the four-party political mechanism, as the four-party political mechanism and the government have been interested in enforcing the election code of conduct rather than creating an environment conducive to talks; however, the 33-party front is for both holding talks and for going against the elections, too.
