Weekly Press Conference on State Affairs

On December 22, 2008, speaking to the reporters at a press conference held at the ministry, Minister for Information and Communications and spokesman for the Government Krishna Bahadur Mahara said that the Government of Nepal adopted a process of informing the people on the state affairs holding a weekly press conference on Mondays for briefing the media persons about the State affairs in a phase-wise manner; in such a weekly conference, spokespersons for all ministries in turn would brief the media persons about the decisions and progress made by their concerned ministries. Government spokesman Mahara said that the objective of press briefing was to keep the people informed on the State affairs and to make the activities of ministries transparent and to make concerned minister and staffs accountable to their tasks.

Spokespersons for seven ministries and two central level offices presented the activities of their concerned ministries and offices in the first phase of the press conference held on Monday, December 22, 2008. Spokespersons for eight ministries and central offices including Home, Defense, Foreign Affairs and Peace and Reconstruction would present the progress in their activities to the media persons on Monday, December 29, 2008.
