Coming Soon, Doing OK, Making Progress

Issue 11, March 11, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

March 9, 2012: coming soon, doing fine, making progress in the peace process and the constitution writing have been regular rhetoric of the Nepalese political leaders. Lately, these things have been intensified but the power struggle continues as the NC leaders want to get the power but the UCPN-Maoist and the UDMF leaders want to retain it as long as possible.

Speaking to the reporters at his Lazimpat residence in Kathmandu yesterday, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that the army integration would be done following the seven-point deal, as a package deal on peace, constitution and consensus government would not stand in the way of army integration, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Prachanda also has said that the army integration process would complete even when other aspects of peace process, constitution and of a unity government remain for discussion; even though the seven-point deal three major parties and the UDMF reached on November 1, 2011 had the provision for the rank determination of the PLA members for integration into the Nepal Army, some technical issues concerning this matter remained to be resolved; however, his party, UDMF and NC have reached an agreement on this matter in the separate meetings held with UDMF and NC leaders yesterday.

Prachanda has realized that the state restructuring and federalism have been much more complicated than the army integration. He also has disclosed that the political parties have been closed to reaching an agreement on a mixed form of governance: the system of a directly elected president and an indirectly elected prime minister from the parliament.

Maoist cantonments are being reduced to 15 from 28, as a team of the Army Integration Special Committee secretariat members has started the process of vacating the satellite cantonments of Maoist combatants on Thursday, and combatants retiring voluntarily are leaving the camps, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

"The process has started, and the AISC teams are working hard to vacate the satellite cantonments at the earliest" secretary at AISC secretariat Surya Silwal told ‘The Rising Nepal’. "We have sent trucks to take goods from satellite cantonment to the main cantonments speedily," he said.

After the meeting of the leaders of UCPN-Maoist and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) held at the prime minister’s official Baluwatar residence yesterday to discuss the contemporary political issues, speaking to the reporters acting chairman of the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Republican Raj Kishor Yadav has said that Chairman Prachanda and Prime-Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai are for enforcing the four-point agreement the UDMF and the UCPN-Maoist have reached, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Prachanda says that the current government remains for completing the peace process and other businesses of the nation but President of NC Sushil Koirala says he will given the current government time to remain in power until the March end thereafter his party will lead a new government.
