Increasing Public Transport Fare

November 3, 2011: The government has agreed on increasing the public transport fare by 9.9 per cent yesterday following the rise in the prices of the citing petroleum products recently in the domestic market.

Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs has been putting pressure on the government to increase the public transport fare at least at 17 per cent since July according to the news in ‘The Himalayan Times’.

Following the rise in the public transport fare, commuters have to pay at least Rs 1.18 more since Friday in the Kathmandu Valley. Consumer-rights activists have said that the government has increased the public transport fare irrationally but the government agency has claimed that it has been based on the scientific calculations.
