UCPN-Maoist For A Consensus Government

September 22, 2010: the standing committee meeting of UCPN-Maoist held at Peris danda on Kathmandu on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 has endorsed the three-point agreement reached with the CPN-UML and appreciated the extension of the term of the UNMIN, and then has decided to hold talks with other parties including the Madhesh parties for forming a national consensus government, and has urged NC leaders to cooperate on building a consensus on forming a new government withdrawing its candidacy from the Prime Ministerial election in the legislature-parliament reports ‘The Rising Nepal’ of September 22, 2010.
"We hope the NC will not stand against a national consensus and withdraw its candidacy for the PM election. We are open to the leadership of the government," spokesperson for UCPN-Maoist Dinanath Sharma told the reporters after the meeting.
Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has already publicly announced that he has been frustrated with the never-ending rounds of election to a Prime Minister and has backed off from the Prime Ministerial election to pave the way for a consensus government.
However, NC candidate Ram Chandra Poudel has also publicly said that he is not going to step back from the election and not going to pull out his candidacy from the election thus blocking the way to the amendment to the parliamentary regulations required for building a national consensus government.
