Meeting of High Level Political Mechanism

February 2, 2010: the three top leaders (Prachanda, Girija Prasad Koirala and Jhalanath Khanal) of the three major political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML have held a meeting of theirs only and then call in other second-ranking leaders to the meeting held in Kathmandu on Monday, February 1, 2010.
According to the government and private press reports, Prachanda has proposed to set up a new national government, as the current government is not capable to complete the peace process rationally and could not complete the writing of a new constitution, and to submit a common national resolution to the legislature for debating the unconstitutional move of the president on directly writing a letter to the then army chief for saving his job.
At the same time, Chairman of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) Upendra Yadav has said that a national government of all political parties representing in the legislature is a need for completing the writing of a new constitution.
Some political analysts say that politicians such as Sushil Koirala, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Ramchandra Poudel of the NC, and Madhav Nepal and KP Oli of the CPN-UML representing the regressive forces have been attempting on derailing the High Level Political Mechanism, and then the peace process and the writing of a new constitution for continuing the rule of the current government headed by the man defeated in two constituencies.
So, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal did not attend the meeting of High Level Political Mechanism held on Monday, February 1, 2010, and has been using his deputy Bijya Gacchedar to tell the public that the High Level Political Mechanism would not work on and would not be effective in resolving the political problems.
