Resolving Contentious Constitutional Issues

Issue 12, March 20, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

March 15, 2011: the sub-committee set up by the Constitutional Committee (CC) has resolved 40 issues out of 75 outstanding contentious constitutional issues, and is ready for submitting those resolved issues to the CC today as its term also expires today, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda heads the committee. Representatives of major political parties are the members of the committee. It needs to work on the remaining contentious issues and resolve them by consensus. So, some of its members are for extending its term by a week or so to resolve the remaining issues.

Then, the CC has to draft a new constitution and then take it to the people for feedback, and then submit it with the people’s opinions to the constitution Assembly for finalizing it and then promulgating it. The last deadline for doing all these things is May 28, 2011.
