Campaign Of Unification Of Two Political Parties In Nepal
By KTM Metro Reporter
May 18, 2013: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) headed by Pashupati Shumsher Rana, and Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) headed by Surya Bahadur Thapa have been holding a convention at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu starting yesterday to unify the two parties. RJP is a splinter party. It split away from the RPP after Pashupati Shumsher Rana got elected to the chairman of the RPP.
At the opening of the convention in presence of national and international representatives of political parties, leaders of the RPP, and the RJP expressed conflicting views. Some leaders said that the country accepted the republican setup and federalism; so, the country would not look back but they were not for the identity-based federal states. Some leaders even hoped to bring back the dead monarchy.
One of the leaders such as Rajeswhor Devekota still hoped that the country could bring back the monarchy stating the examples of the countries that had brought the monarchy back. Lokendra Bahadur Chand had expressed his love for the monarchy, and said that he would not have dissolved the monarchy.
Surya Bahadur Thapa and Pashupati Shumsher Rana said that in any circumstances the monarchy could not come back; they were absolutely for republic and federalism. But they were not for identity-based federalism.
Thus, both the RPP and the RJP stood against the ethnic Nepalis. Ethnic Nepalis would take them as enemies. Rajeshower Devkota, and Lokendra Bahadur Chanda symbolized the enemies of the Nepalis that opted for the republic and federalism. One day, Nepalis would bring them to justice.
Top leaders of the RPP and RJP had agreed on chairing the unified party in rotation but the district level leaders and cadres opposed this provision stating the top leaders were to monopolize the party leadership. Chairman of RJP was to take the chair of the unified party after the convention.
