Mandarin Encroaching On Cantonese Opposed In Guangzhou

July 26, 2010: thousands of Chinese people have protested against the Chinese authorities replacing the majority local people’s language called Cantonese with the official language called Mandarin on a major local television network in Guangzhou on Sunday, July 25, 2010 according to the global.nytimes.com.  The protest has been peaceful obviously due to the authorities not using forces to quell the protest.

Tibetans also have been complaining about the Chinese officials replacing the local Tibetan language with the official Mandarin even in schools. Tibetans fear that they will lose their language and couture due to the Chinese rule in Tibet.
