Discussion on preliminary draft of constitutional commissions

Issue 29, July 19, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On July 16, 2009, members of the Constituent Assembly (CA) have resumed the discussion on the preliminary draft on ‘constitutional commissions on various subject matters’ prepared by the Committee on Setting Structure of Constitutional Bodies. Members of the CA representing various political parties presented their comments on the preliminary draft and suggestions to amend the draft.

Most of the participants in the discussion have suggested to form a single umbrella commission on all the subject matters rather than having a number of commissions, as too many commissions will confuse the administration and may even conflict among the commissions.

At the same time, on Thursday, July 16, 2009, following the Clause 149 (4) of the Constituent Assembly Rules and Regulations of 2008 (2065), the Constituent Assembly Business Advisory Committee has revised the schedule for discussing the concept papers and drafts presented by the eleven CA committees extending it from July 15 to September 6, 2009 not affecting the final date of promulgation of a new constitution. The previous schedule for completing the discussion on the preliminary drafts and concept papers was July 15, 2009.
