Likely Political Bluff Going Around

Issue 29, July 15, 2012

By KTM metro Reporter

July 12, 2012: Nepali Congress Cadre Dr. Ram Saran Mahat claimed to be present at the meeting with the head of state President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav yesterday, said that the President was going to fire the prime minister after July 21 and then a new government would be formed but the so-called democrat did not mention which Article of the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007, the head of state would use to fire the prime minister and then form a new government.

"The President will wait until July 21. He will ask the parties to form national unity government if the PM does not resign by then," Mahat said, speaking at the Reporters Club Thursday, and added, "There will be a new government within the next two weeks," writes nepalnews.com today.

According to him, the President's call for unity government will come with a timeline. If the parties fail to form such a government a party that is able to get support of the majority -- based on the position of the parties in the dissolved Constituent Assembly -- will form the majority government, Mahat said, writes nepalnews.com today.

Political analysts said that Dr. Mahat’s statement was a good political bluff. However, if the head of state really does something to this end then the president would risk his own office if not the political turbulence because of this most undemocratic method of removing the elected prime minister. As the head of state, the president could act only following the recommendations of the prime minister. So, the president needs to wait for the recommendations of the prime minister for anything to do.
