July 27, 2017

Kathmandu: finally after 51 days of taking office, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba added 19 ministers to his cabinet yesterday: 10 from his party, six from the Maoist-Center, two from the Madheshi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik, and one from the CPN-United; however, Deuba has five ministry to fill out with new ministers; so, it will not be the final expansion of his cabinet.

Immediately after the news of newly appointed ministers taking oath at the president’s residence, Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Kamal Thapa held a press conference to state the stand of his party on helping the government. He has dissolved the talk team he had set up under Lokendra Bahadur Chand to have dialogues with the prime minister for negotiation to have a due share in the cabinet. He also declared that his party would not help the government in the constitution amendment. He had been saying that this party would support the government for the constitution amendment. Thapa’s activities indicated that he has nothing to do with the ideology of his party; he would do anything only to get power. At the press conference another leader of RPP Pashupati Shumsher JBR was nowhere to be seen.

Prime Minster Deuba has been stingy with the appointment of women to the ministers to his cabinet appointing only three out of 19 ministers he has appointed yesterday are women. His spouse also the Member of Parliament Dr Arju Deuba led a women’s delegation demanding at least one-third of the cabinet needs to be the women. However, Prime Minister also husband Deuba brushed off the demand.
