Foreign Investments And Interferences In Nepal

July 8, 2012: at a time Nepalese media have been voicing against the government giving the management of the international airport in Kathmandu to an Indian private company, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that the government has no plan on turning over the management of the international airport to any foreign company. Urging the people not to run after the unnecessary rumors spread by the irresponsible media, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai said that he would not compromise the nationality, integrity and sovereignty of the country; and the media stories on this matter are totally false, and urged the media not to disseminate any news without verifying its truth, according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today.

Stating the current government had signed off agreements on various subjects with foreign countries adversely affecting the national sovereignty and independence, Chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya Kiran yesterday said that he would not allow any foreign interfere in the sovereignty of Nepal, and appealed to all political parties for combating any foreign interference in the national independence. Chairman Vaidhya said that all inequitable agreements and treaties with foreign nations, including the treaties with the northern neighbor should be scrapped; Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai signed off treaties such as Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion (BIPPA), water resources and management of International Airport with India even without informing party Chairman Prachanda during his visit to India, according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today.

The Indian investors had shown their interest in Nepalese industries and trade at a seminar on "Doing Business with Nepal" jointly held by the Embassy of Nepal, New Delhi, Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Kolkata, West Bengal, recently. Speaking at the seminar, West Bengal, IAS Principal Secretary with Addl. Charge-Department of Commerce and Industry Alapan Bandopadhyay focused on the potential tourist industry in Nepal. He considered Nepal as one of the tourist destinations, as Nepal is a beautiful and elegantly sublime country with rich cultural heritage, which is yet to turn into a much sought-after holiday destination, according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today.

Speaking at the function to open the second convention of Mahottari-Kathmandu Liaison Committee in Kathmandu yesterday, President of NC Sushil Koirala has said that the NC is always in favor of consensus, reconciliation and unity, and the political pressure and street protests would force the UCPN-Maoist to come to the common understanding, writes ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today.
