Prime Minister Promising But Not Keeping Them

Issue 04, January 24, 2010

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On January 21, 2010, speaking at the legislature, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has told the legislators that his administration would implement the decision of the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) set up following the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007. However, his Defense Minister has repeatedly said that she is not bound to follow the decision of the AISC headed by the Prime minister.

If Prime Minister Madhav Nepal wants to do what he has told the legislators he needs to fire the Defense Minister immediately and take the defense portfolio in his hands. However, his political performances so far make it clear that Mr. Nepal is not so scrupulous politician, and he must be saying something to the public through the Defense Minister and at the same time he is telling something different to the legislators. His past public speeches indicate that Mr. Nepal has been going head-on confrontation with the Maoists and wants to scrap the writing of a new constitution not completing the peace process.
