Revenue Losses Due to Illegal Dealings
By KTM Metro Reporter
July 8, 2010: speaking at the interaction program held by the Nepal Electrical Association in Kathmandu on July 07, 2010, Chief Tax Officer of Area Number Two Inland Revenue Office in Kathmandu Yagya Prasad Dhungel has acknowledged the custom officers and importers of goods have been working together to under value the imported goods causing revenue losses to the state. Both the officers and importers from such illegal dealings gain but the state suffers from the revenue losses. How much the state loses the revenue is the subject matter of research but one could guess that such losses might reach billions of rupees, as one of the main revenue sources is the tax on the imported goods.
Such illegal connections the government officials and the business people could set up because the Madhav government had been not for enforcing the rule of law rather for bullying it.
