Revolt In NC Party

Issue 40, October 6, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 4, 2013: NC leaders and local cadres in the Khotang district have quit the party en masse protesting against the decision of the central leadership on providing ineligible persons with nominations for the candidacy at the constituencies of their district, according to the RSS news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’

The central committee of NC nominated Bishnu Kumar Rai and Naresh Kumar Shrestha as the party's candidates at the constituencies for the forthcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) elections. This decision has infuriated the local leaders and cadres provoking former state minister Shiva Kumar Basnet, general body member of the party Mahendra Kumar Katawal, District Treasurer Devi Rai, District Secretary Keshav Karki, and Regional President Bishnu Raj Rai in the district to quit their respective position.

'We were compelled to resign en masse from the post due to dissatisfaction over the ticket distribution policy of the party's central committee,' said Katawal. So, Shyam Kumar Rai has filed his candidacy as a rebel candidate against Naresh Kumar Shrestha at the constituency No. 1, Bishnu Raj Rai has filed his candidacy against Bishnu Kumar Rai at the constituency No. 2. 'We are compelled to file our candidacy against the party recommended candidates,' said Shyam Kumar Rai.

Shyam Kumar Rai is a NC secretary at the constituency No. 1 and Bishnu Raj Rai is a NC president at the constituency No. 2.
