Warn Contractors Of Consequences Of Delay In Roadwork
By KTM Metro Reporter
April 18, 2013: Kathmanduites have complained of dust and smoke: dust coming out of the incomplete widening of roads, and smoke from the slow running vehicles. Physicians have warned of the lungs disease caused by inhaling such dust and smoke on the streets. So, the government has been concerned with expediting the completion of the roadwork in Kathmandu. Any way, construction workers have three more months to work before the monsoon sets in and before the fiscal year ends, in both cases they have to stop working on the roads. Monsoon rains would not allow working on roads. Ending the fiscal years means, they have to wait for the new fiscal year to get money for roadwork.
Head of the High Level Supervision Committee on roadwork Krishna Hari Baskota also the secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office and Council of Ministers warned construction companies of serious consequences of delay in completing the roadwork and the quality of the work they do, according to the news posted on ‘gorkhapatrapnline.com’.
Secretary Banskota accompanied by secretaries to various ministries made an inspection of the ongoing roadwork at different places in Kathmandu yesterday. At the inspection sites, Secretary Baskota made it clear to the construction companies at work that the government would take strong actions against the construction companies and the officials that delay the roadwork but it would reward those with excellent performances.
Secretary Baskota said that the construction companies should complete the roadwork within the given time frame, and they would not get time extension on any pretext; the government would annulled the contract signed with the construction companies that failed to complete their work in time; the government would not compromise on the quality of roads on any pretexts and urged the general public to support the drive.
