Prachanda Meeting With UN Secretary General Ban In New York

November 10, 2011: coordinator of the Greater Lumbini Development National Directorate Committee Prachanda met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday morning, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. Prachanda briefed the UN Secretary General on the commitment of the government of Nepal to develop Lumbini: the birthplace of Lord Buddha as a world peace center and a heritage city. Prachanda is in New York for lobbying the international community for the assistant to the development of Lumbini: the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Prachanda explained to the Secretary General that the government of Nepal recently set up a Committee on preserving and developing all aspects of Greater Lumbini through a multi-stakeholder approach with the national and international support.

Prachanda requested Secretary General Ban for setting up an international committee on Lumbini development under the chairmanship of the Secretary General. Prachanda also explained to the Secretary General the spiritual value of Lumbini for world peace is well within the noble ideals of peace and justice of the United Nations, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. Prachanda invited Secretary General Ban to visit Nepal and see the status of development of Lumbini. The Secretary General accepted the invitation of Prachanda according to ‘The Rising Nepal.
