Prices of Petroleum Products Up Again

Issue 17, April 25, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

April 23, 2010: the local media have reported that the state-run monopoly company called Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the prices of petroleum products by Rs 2 per liter on the pretext of the NOC losing millions of rupees every month as the import prices of these products have risen quite high.

The Madhav administration has increased the price of sugar from Rs 50 to 90 per kilogram to benefit the mill owners. The government has the monopoly on buying and selling sugar. So, it could double the price of sugar without considering the sufferings of the consumers. The state-run company called Salt Trading Corporation manages the buying and the selling of sugar.

The Madhav administration has been shamelessly mismanaging these two state-run corporations and drawing the money from these corporations for their political ends.
