Melamchi Water for Kathmandu

On February 20, 2009, the state-run Radio Nepal in its 7:00 A.M. news reported that the officials of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project and the China construction company signed on the contract on the construction of the tunnel for bringing water from the Melamchi River to the Sundarijal water reservoir in the presence of the Minister for Physical Planning and Works Bijaya Kumar Gacchedar and the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal. It would be completed within five years. The Asian Development Bank will finance the project. After the signing ceremony, Minister Gacchedar said that after five years the dream of Former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai of washing the streets of Kathmandu by the water of Melamchi River would come true.
