Sujata’s Refusal To Sign Off Contract for Printing MRPs

Issue 35, August 29, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 23, 2010: officiating Deputy Prime Minister with the portfolio of foreign affairs Sujata Koirala has refused to sign off the contract document prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for awarding a contract for printing machine-readable passports (MRPs) to a French company that has bided a lowest price for printing MRPs.

Certainly, she is not happy with awarding a contract to the lowest bidder, as she is not benefiting from such a contract. Previously, she has cancelled the bids called for printing MRPs only to award the job to the Indian state-owned company but the public pressure has forced the government to cancel the contract to the Indian company and call a new bid again for printing MRPs.
