CPN-UML Politburo Endorses Three-point Agreement

Issue 39, September 26, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 21, 2010: The politburo meeting of CPN-UML held on Monday has endorsed the three-point agreement it has reached with the UCPN-Maoist on September 17, 2010 according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of September 21, 2010. The CPN-UML has reached the deal with the UCPN-Maoist apparently for breaking the current political deadlock and to build a consensus on forming a new government. However, the Nepalese media have bombarded with the news of the UCPN-Maoist and the CPN-UML forming a coalition government. The CPN-UML leader has refuted the news of forming a majority government of the two large communist parties but for forming a consensus government. Chairman Jhalanath Khanal has started off talking to leaders of other political parties to this end. He has also urged NC candidate for a Prime Minister Ram Chandra Poudel to pull out his candidacy to pave the way for forming a new government in a new style rather than contesting the never-ending election to a Prime minister without the cooperation of the CPN-UML and Madheshi parties.

At the same time, NC candidate for a Prime Minister Ram Chandra Poudel has publicly said that he is not in a mood to withdraw his candidacy for a Prime Minister and urged the CPN-UML to support him to get elected.

The House Speaker has said that as long as the players of the election game are in the field the parliamentary rules cannot be amended for making provisions for other conditions for electing a new Prime Minister. So, as long as Mr. Poudel remains in the field, the current game of no play will continue even if another player Chairman of UCPN-Maoist backs off from the game.
