Indian Assistance For Building Roads In Nepal

November 15, 2010: Joint Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs of India Satish Mehta, and Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works of Nepal Kamalraj Pandey has agreed on a Nepal-Tarai Road Project on Monday, November 15, 2010, for which India provides Nepal with Rs 11 billion. The project is for constructing 605 km of postal roads. The project management is to immediately start constructing 61 km of Dhangadhi-Satibhajiniya road and 37 km of Lamki-Tikapur-Khagrela road in December of this year. Nepal and India have set up a joint steering committee, myrepublica.com writes.

The project is of three phases and envisages constructing over 1,450 km of blacktopped roads in the Terai area of Nepal adjoining India. Phase-I of the project is for constructing 605 km is starting next month. The Government of India is funding the estimated cost of nearly Indian Rs. 6875 million (Rs 11 Billion) under the Nepal-India Cooperation, Economictimes.indiatimes.com writes.
