CIAA Ordering To Dissolve All-party Mechanism

December 25, 2011: the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday, December 23, 2011 has decided to write to the Local Development Ministry to dissolve all-party political mechanism set up for running the development administration at the local levels: from districts to the villages, after the CIAA has received a number of complaints about the misuse of the resources ‘The Rising Nepal’ of December 24, 2011 writes.

Political parties representing at the parliament have set up an all-party mechanism at each district and village to run development administration. The mechanism has the proportional representations of all political parties based on their strength in the parliament.

In a press release, the CIAA has said that such an all-party mechanism has no legal status and goes against the Interim Constitution; consequently it is not accountable to the people. The CIAA has received complaints about the corrupt practices of such an all-party mechanism.
