Formation of “Peace and Conflict Management Committee”

Issue 15, April 13, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

The Government of Nepal has set up a “Peace and Conflict Management Committee” for effectively implementing the ‘Comprehensive Peace Agreement’ signed between the Government of Nepal and the Communist party of Nepal-Maoist, and other agreements with other parties the government has signed so far. The committee will work for assisting the government in the peace process and conflict management until a high-level Peace Commission is set up.

The government appointed former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana and former Member of Parliament Padma Ratna Tuladhar to the positions of the joint conveners of the Committee, and appointed representatives of the political parties, the civil society and the Secretary to the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction to the positions of members of the committee. There is a provision for appointing members of international agencies and the conflict-related national and international experts and advisors to this committee according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of April 05, 2008.
