Issue 15, April 14, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

April 7, 2013: speaking at the rally held by the Special Bureau of UCPN-Maoist in Dharke of the Dhading District yesterday, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda said if the elections were not held in June then the current government and the Election Commission would lose the legitimacy of announcing the date for elections, according to the news carried by the ’gorkhapatra’ of today.

NC and CPN-UML have been plotting against the elections in June fearing for the UCPN-Maoist winning two-thirds majority, and the political parties agreeing on holding elections in June have been now saying elections in June are not possible, said Chairman Prachanda.

Speaking at the Reporters Club in Kathmandu yesterday, General Secretary of NC Krishna Prasad Sitaula said that the elections would not be possible before the Dashain festival means October, as the government has not started off the campaign of distributing citizenship certificates, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

Speaking to the reporters in Bhairava, Chairman of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic Bijaya Gacchedar said that the elections should be held in June to break the political deadlock, and the Interim Election Council should immediately announce the date for elections, and labeled the political parties going against the elections as undemocratic, according to ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

Chairman of CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya had said that his party would not participate in the elections rather would work against it. He claimed that the president had appointed the Chief Justice to the chairman of the Interim Election Council overstepping the Constitution, so, the Interim Election Council was unconstitutional, and the elections held by such an unconstitutional agency would not be legitimate. Chairman Vaidhya has been taking with him another 32 small political parties to oppose the elections and the government.
