Issue 49, December 09, 2007

The state-run newspaper “The Rising Nepal” of December 01, 2007, reported that Minister for Foreign Affairs Sahana Pradhan requested the Chinese delegation led by the Minister for International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the People's Republic of China, Wang Jiarui at the meeting at her office on November 30, 2007. Minister Pradhan said China planned to extend the rail service from Lhasa to Sigatshe of Tibet within three years. Minister Pradhan also said that the Government of Nepal had requested the Chinese ambassador to Nepal several times for the extension of the railway service to Nepal in the past. However, this time, the Chinese side has responded positively. Minister Pradhan said, “The extension of the rail service to Nepal will significantly help in the economic development of Nepal.
