President Musharraf in Crisis
After deceivably and illegally deporting Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif without even honoring his basic human rights to be in the country of his own, President Pervez Musharraf has reshuffled the top military echelons appointing his near and dear ones to the strategic positions in the military. This might be the strategic decision of the President to stay on in power probably another five years after announcing he would shed off the military uniform for the civilian presidency. However, the Supreme Court of Pakistan would decide whether he would be eligible to be the President for a third time.
President Musharraf has gone through one crisis after another of his own makings. He suspended the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan but had to reinstate him again under the national and international pressure after three months. He sent commandos to force out fundamentalists taking shelter in the Red mosque killing more than one hundred men and women – some of them are innocent used as human shields by the fundamentalists provoking Al-qaeda leader to declare a holy war called ‘jihad’ against President Musharaf.
