Politics In A Cup Of Tea

Issue 45, November 4, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 29, 2012: on the last day of the largest Hindu festival called Dashain in Nepal, President of NC Sushi Koirala held a tea reception for all the political leaders, diplomats, and other respectable people in the Nepalese society at the Sanepa party headquarters in Kathmandu today.

It was the tradition of unofficially getting together all political leaders set by BP Koirala, and followed by Ganesh Man Singh: the legendary leader of Nepal in 1976, at the time when the regime outlawed any political assembly other than the political assembly accepted by the administration.

This type of gathering is no more necessary other than following the tradition set by the great leaders in the past to make the political gathering possible in the name of a tea party. Leaders of CPN-UML had emulated the tradition of a tea party but they no more follow it.

Most probably, President of NC Sushil Koirala wanted to show that the NC was a party to count on although Mr. Koirala has no mandate from the people to be a leader of the people. Such old political guys that could not get rid of their old mindset have been the political hurdles to promulgating a new constitution.

These opposition guys have not allowed the government to submit a full-fledged budget hoping to force the current government out of office. These guys are not shame of causing so much pain to the people, to the economy and the society blocking the budget.
